While I enjoy writing patterns, and sometimes enjoy reading them, most patterns do not solve
those problems that I observe in projects.
The reason probably is that the biggest issues that projects face are not of a technical nature.
Applying technical solutions (like most patterns) to non-technical problems
may soothe some of the most visible symptoms, but it hardly cures the project's diseases.
Thus, I have been looking for a way to express relations between sociology and team effects,
chosen technology, and processes.
What I found was that medical doctors face similar relations - and have found ways for treatment
as well as for describing knowledge about these relations. Since 2001, I have published a number of
pattern-like papers describing symptoms to a disease, and possible therapies mixing technical and
non-technical approaches.

and of VikingPLoP conferences since 2002. The ACCU magazine has started to publish some diagnoses in 2008.

PROACTIVELY WAIT ("aktives Zuwarten") is a standard therapy in medicine...
SOOTHING some pain can increase the quality of living, and is sometimes the best that can be done...
ILLEGIBLE HANDWRITING supports the necessary distance between doctor and patient...
WHOEVER HEALS IS RIGHT, independent of paradigms and beliefs...
Many thanks go to my wife Kerstin who not only is a medical doctor, but who explored with me
that our jobs have more in common than anybody would have guessed.
